“If I could say it in words there would be no reason to paint.” Edward Hopper
Alison is an expressionistic contemporary, mixed media artist whose colourful and vibrant work is mostly inspired by the natural world. For many pieces, she employs a unique way of working using initial random mark making to guide the creative process – so that she literally has no idea where any given piece is going and revels in that exploration and challenge.
This results in an eclectic mix of subjects including animals, plants, people, landscapes, and abstract art. She particularly likes the organic shapes created by nature and sometimes embellishes those to produce fantastical fauna and flora.
She regards her art as adult play and doesn’t take it too seriously and she hopes that it will add colour, interest, and joy to any space.
The exhibition opening times are 10-4pm Wednesdays through Sundays. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays and occasionally for other events in the main hall: we recommend you call first if travelling a distance to avoid disappointment.
Meet the Artist
You are invited to join Alison on Saturday 28 September when she will be at The Shed between 11am and 2.30pm.
About Alison Adams
Alison comes from an artistic background & has always loved art and been creative but followed a more conventional career path. After some health issues and retirement, she returned to art energised, excited & animated by the chance to explore it again.
She works from her home near Tetbury, and her art is mostly sparked by the world around her here in the beautiful Cotswolds. She is inspired by the wild and crazy diversity of the natural world and the restorative power of nature. She particularly likes the organic shapes created by nature, and sometimes embellishes these to produce fantastical plants and animals.
She often works using initial methods that suggest a subject to her that she then enhances. This way of working means that she literally doesn’t know what she’s going to produce next. She finds this approach to be challenging, fascinating & rewarding. It results in an eclectic mix of subjects including animals, plants, people, landscapes, still life & abstract art. It also means she works in a variety of media (mostly acrylic) combined with collage. She has always loved the many different types of paper and finds cutting (or tearing) and gluing paper to be therapeutic. She also considers collage to be a very varied and underrated art form.
Her aim is to create vibrant art that lifts spirits and adds joy & zest to any space. She doesn’t take it all too seriously, adopting a playful attitude and she hopes that approach comes through in the pictures produced. She had fun creating the work in the exhibition and she hopes you have fun appreciating them.
